5100 VoiceBox — Audio Announcements Troubleshooting & Configuration

Product Manual: D5100XXCX-7010 User Manual

>

Applies to: D5100XXCX, D5120XXCX, D5130XXCX (VoiceBox series)

1. Voice Announcements Not Playing — Check Volume Control

Symptom

The display counts correctly but makes no sound, or the audio is too quiet to hear.

Cause

The front-panel volume knob may be turned down or set to its minimum position.

Solution

  1. Locate the volume knob on the front of the display, in the lower-right corner of the black speaker face surround.
  2. Turn the knob clockwise to increase volume.
  3. Test the announcement by incrementing the display number.

2. Voice Announcements Not Playing — Check DIP Switch Settings

Symptom

The display counts correctly but produces no audio, even after adjusting the volume knob.

Cause

One or more DIP switches on the back of the display may be set incorrectly, disabling the voice announce feature.

Solution

  1. Power off the display.
  2. Locate the DIP switch bank on the back of the display.
  3. Refer to page 7 (DIP switch functions) and page 13 (DIP switch settings for voice announce) of the product manual to verify correct switch positions.
  4. If you have a second working VoiceBox display, you can compare DIP switch positions directly and match them.
  5. Restore any switches that are out of position, power the display back on, and test audio.

3. Reducing or Minimizing VoiceBox Volume

Symptom

The voice announcement feature is unwanted or too loud for the environment.

Cause

By design, the VoiceBox audio feature cannot be fully disabled via software. However, the volume can be reduced to a near-silent level.

Solution

  1. Locate the volume knob on the front of the display, in the lower-right corner of the black speaker face surround.
  2. Turn the knob all the way to the left (counterclockwise) to minimize volume.

Note: There is no menu option or remote control setting to turn off voice announcements entirely.

4. Enabling the Chime Feature

Symptom

The display does not produce a chime sound when the number changes.

Cause

The internal chime is disabled by default and must be turned on via the remote control menu.

Solution

  1. Point the wireless remote at the display and press MENU.
  2. Press the UP arrow until the display reads 30.
  3. Press 1 — the display should now show 31.
  4. Press ENTER to save.

Note: The chime function is documented on page 11 of the product manual.

⚠️ Important: The standard D5120 display includes a chime-only feature and does not support full voice announcements. If you require voice announce functionality on a 2-digit display, you will need the D5120V (VoiceBox model). The D5120V can be wired to an existing D5120 to run both displays together.

5. Configuring a VoiceBox Display with a Second Standard Display

Symptom

A VoiceBox display and a standard display are not showing the same number or are not operating together correctly.

Cause

When pairing a VoiceBox display (e.g., D5120XXCX) with a standard display (e.g., D5120), both units must be wired together and programmed as primary and secondary displays.

Solution

Wiring: Connect the two displays as shown in the wiring diagram in the product manual.

Primary Display Programming (the display used to increment/decrement the number):

  1. Press MENU on the remote.
  2. If the display does not already show 14, type 14.
  3. Press ENTER to save.

Secondary Display Programming:

  1. Press MENU on the remote.
  2. If the display does not already show 15, type 15.
  3. Press ENTER to save.

6. Voice Announces Stop Working Intermittently (Hardware Fault)

Symptom

The display counts correctly and the number updates as expected, but voice announcements stop working after a period of normal operation. A flashing red light may also be present.

Cause

This behavior indicates an internal hardware fault with the VoiceBox module. This is not resolvable through programming or DIP switch adjustments.

Solution

  1. Verify the volume knob and DIP switch settings are correct (see Sections 1 and 2 above) to rule out configuration issues.
  2. If the number continues to change correctly but audio has permanently stopped — especially if accompanied by a flashing red light — the VoiceBox unit has likely failed and requires replacement or repair.
  3. A replacement unit (D5130XXCX or equivalent model) is recommended to restore service.
  4. The failed unit may optionally be sent in for repair — contact Microframe for an RMA number before shipping.

When to Contact Support

  • The display shows a flashing red light along with loss of audio.
  • Audio announcements stop intermittently and resume on their own, without a clear cause.
  • You need assistance interpreting DIP switch settings from the manual.
  • You need an RMA number to return a faulty unit for repair.
  • You are unsure which replacement model is compatible with your current installation.

Contact Microframe Support for warranty service, RMA requests, or further technical assistance.
