6200 — Timer Keypad Wiring and Operation

Last Updated 20 hours ago

KB Article: D6200 / A6200 Timer Keypad — Wiring, Operation, and Troubleshooting

Product Manual: D6200 / A6200 Timer Keypad Manual

Refer to this manual first for wiring diagrams, programming instructions, and full specifications.

1. Keypad Is Unresponsive to Button Inputs

Symptom

The keypad does not respond when buttons are pressed, or the display shows no numbers on the keypad screen.

Cause

The keypad may be damaged due to age or a wiring/connection fault between the keypad and the display.

Solution

  1. Check that the keypad screen is showing numbers. If no numbers appear, the keypad itself is likely damaged.
  2. Perform a bench test: disconnect the keypad from its normal installation wiring and connect it directly to the display using a short piece of wire. This isolates whether the problem is with the keypad, the display, or the wiring run between them.
  3. If the keypad screen shows numbers but the unit is still unresponsive after bench testing, the keypad likely requires repair or replacement.
  4. If the display is showing no signs of activity, the display itself may be damaged and should be evaluated separately.

2. Keypad Does Not Keep Time / Clock Drift

Symptom

The clock does not maintain accurate time, or time drifts noticeably.

Cause

The D6200/A6200 onboard clock has a typical drift of a few seconds per month. This is normal behavior and is not indicative of a fault.

Solution

  • Periodically resynchronize the clock manually. Given the expected drift rate, checking and resetting the clock once a month is generally sufficient.
  • Refer to the product manual for instructions on setting the time of day.

Note: If the clock fails to keep time at all (not just minor drift), this may indicate a hardware fault. See the repair and replacement guidance in Section 4.

3. Switching Between Timer Mode and Time-of-Day (Clock) Mode

Symptom

The operator wants to switch the display between countdown/countup timer operation and Time of Day (TOD) clock display.

Cause / Background

This is a built-in feature of the 6200 keypad and does not require additional hardware.

Solution

  1. Use the SELECT A or B TIMER function to switch between Timer A and Timer B.
  2. Use the A SHOWS TIME OF DAY setting to display the clock on the A display.
  3. Refer to the product manual for the full keypad programming sequence.

Optional: Running Two Displays Simultaneously

  • A "B" display can be added (selected at time of order) to show the clock on Display A and a timer on Display B at the same time.
  • When running two displays, both must be the same digit size (e.g., both 4-digit or both 6-digit).

4. SMPTE / External Sync Compatibility

Symptom

The operator wants to synchronize the 6200 display using a SMPTE timecode signal.

Cause

The D6200 keypad uses a proprietary protocol and does not accept SMPTE timecode input.

Solution

  • If SMPTE synchronization is required, consider Microframe models D8009 or D0810, which are designed to accept SMPTE input.
  • Contact Microframe sales or support to discuss which model best fits your application.

5. Keypad Repair and Replacement Policy

Symptom

The keypad is damaged or no longer functioning and may need repair or replacement.

Cause

Microframe's repair service is limited to products within a 7-year repair window from the original purchase date.

Solution

Step 1 — Determine the age of your unit

  • Locate the serial number on the back of your display (the screen with the red LED lights). The display serial number is used to look up the purchase date on file.
  • Note: The keypad serial number alone may not be sufficient to locate your account.

Step 2 — Check repair eligibility

  • If your system is within 7 years of purchase, contact Microframe Support to arrange sending the keypad in for repair.
  • If your system is older than 7 years, repair service is not available.

Step 3 — Purchase a replacement keypad

  • The current compatible replacement is the D6200 Timer Keypad: https://microframecorp.com/d6200-timer-keypad
  • The D6200 keypad is compatible with existing displays from prior A6200 systems in most cases.
  • Upgrade discounts may be available for repeat customers. Contact Microframe Sales when placing your order.

Complete replacement systems are also available if needed:
